Wes Newhouse, a founding partner at the law firm of Newhouse, Prophater, Letcher and Moots (NPLM), serves on the Chamber’s board of directors and leads the Business Development committee. Newhouse believes that “networking has its place but it is overemphasized. What is truly beneficial is actually getting to know people at something more than a single event. Once of the advantages of being a Chamber member is that I have had the chance to truly get to know, on a fairly accelerated basis, some of the owners and operators of small businesses and leaders in the community, political and otherwise.”
As chair of the Business Development committee, Newhouse’s role is to facilitate the implementation of programs that the Chamber’s board has determined to be beneficial to members. According to Newhouse, “the Ask the Expert program has been a very good opportunity to provide members with helpful information to our members. [The program] helps encourage small businesses to locate to Upper Arlington. It assists our existing membership by giving them insights into some fairly complicated business issues and that in turn helps us retain businesses as both members of the Chamber and in our community.”
As part of the Businesses Development committee, Newhouse also is part of the team that oversees the Chamber’s Business Advisory (BA) program which provides business consulting services to Classic and Premier-level members. Newhouse believes that “the BA program has been an opportunity for [the Chamber] so far. It’s a very helpful way, at no cost to members, to obtain information that could help members get their businesses established and running which is just a vitally important thing during the first few months of getting their business going. The Chamber’s program serves as a place that business starts up can turn to to guide them through the difficult start-up process.”
Newhouse says that he wants “to help bring some of the organizational skills that I have, and ability to perhaps set priorities and set focus. I want to try to bring that to the Chamber and see what I can contribute.”
